Meet Our Gynecologists, OBGYNs & Women’s Healthcare Providers

Dr. Cristina Alfieri completed her undergraduate education at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and received her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts in 2002. She subsequently moved with her husband to Detroit and completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wayne State University. Dr. Alfieri started her career at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, RI, prior to joining Hutzel Women’s Health Specialists in 2008.

Dr. Alfieri’s clinical interests include care of high-risk pregnancies, management of labor and delivery, and promotion of women’s control of their own fertility.

In addition to caring for her patients, she enjoys traveling with her husband and children and being an active member of her community.

Dr. Cristina Alfieri is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. David Kmak is originally from Northwest Indiana. He completed his undergraduate college training at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He then graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1986. Dr. Kmak performed his resident training in OB/GYN at Hutzel Hospital/Detroit Medical Center. Following residency, he joined the faculty of Wayne State University Department of OB/GYN at Hutzel Hospital and the Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Kmak was part of the faculty for 17 years until he decided to go into private practice as a provider for Hutzel Women’s Health Specialists.

Dr. Kmak’s areas of specialty are minimally invasive and robotic surgeries. He is an accredited provider at the Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery based at Harper/Hutzel Hospital. A surgeon must have demonstrated their skills in surgery, as well as low complication rates to be credentialed for this designation through the AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy).

Dr. Kmak has been elected and listed in Hour Detroit magazine as a “Top Doc” for the last five years.

Dr. Vista-Deck graduated from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University School of Medicine. After residency, she joined the Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty where she spent many years teaching residents and increasing her patient base. She loves working at Hutzel Women’s Health Specialists and continues to be very active in resident teaching.

Dr. Vista-Deck decided to become a pediatrician at a very young age. As her medical career flourished, she realized that women’s health was her primary passion. Sharing the excitement of a pregnancy and the amazement of childbirth is a compelling reason to get up every day—and even in the middle of the night. She believes in empowering women of all ages to be proactive in their health. Her primary interests include routine and high risk obstetrics, adolescent gynecology, and perimenopausal/postmenopausal care.

When Dr. Vista-Deck isn’t seeing patients, she and her husband, Mike, can be found watching and participating in their children’s activities, including sports, dance, boating, skiing, and snowboarding. She dedicates one week each year to the poor of the Philippines, participating in a medical/surgical mission where she performs gynecologic surgeries and assists the general surgeons and plastic surgeons.

Dr. Alionye Usifoh completed her undergraduate education at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and received her medical degree from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and a Masters of Public Health from Case Western Reserve University in 2014.

She subsequently moved to Detroit to complete her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Henry Ford Hospital.

Dr. Usifoh’s clinical interests include promotion of women’s health, adolescent gynecology, management of routine and low risk pregnancies, gynecological surgeries and community health.

In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the Detroit area food scene, traveling with her husband, and being an active member of her church community.

Valerie is a board-certified Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner. She completed both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing at Wayne State University. Valerie has 25 years of experience providing care to women and infants. She has worked in the neonatal, labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum units at Hutzel Hospital as well as various clinics throughout the city of Detroit.

With 17 years of experience as a nurse practitioner, Valerie is qualified to provide comprehensive, low-risk obstetrical and gynecological care, while also presenting patient education and promoting healthy behavior at Hutzel Women’s Health Specialists.

In her free time, Valerie enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing tennis, and practicing yoga.

She is an educational affiliate member of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Amanda Brownsberger, CNM, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery form the University of Michigan. Amanda has developed her midwifery skills in a variety of hospital and private practice settings for 15 years. As a Nurse Midwife, she is qualified to provide comprehensive care to women prenatally, during labor, and during postpartum. She also provides gynecological care to women of all ages. She takes pride in her ability to provide compassionate care and promote healthy lifestyles in all women at Hutzel Women’s Health Specialists.

She is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Midwifery.
