CoolSculpting Frequently Asked Questions

We have helped hundreds of women and men in Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Dearborn and across Wayne County lose stubborn fat, and get the body they love, with CoolSculpting.

In this two part article, Hutzel Women’s Health Specialists answer some of the most frequently asked questions about CoolSculpting that our patients ask.

What body areas can CoolSculpting work on?

In the United States, CoolSculpting is FDA-approved to eliminate visible fat on the abdomen (“belly”), flanks (“muffin top”), back (“bra rolls”), buttocks, arms (“bat wings”) and even the neck (“double chin”).

This means that CoolSculpting can remove fat from almost every area of the body, except the calves or ankles.

Additionally, CoolSculpting can also be used to remove fat pockets from male breasts or “man boobs” in certain men.  (Note that if actual breast tissue needs to be removed in men or women liposuction or gynecomastia surgery may be a better choice.)

Is CoolSculpting permanent?

Yes! Once the fat cells are frozen, they are permanently destroyed. The body’s elimination processes then naturally flush them out. So once the fat cells gone, they’re gone forever and cannot ever come back in that area.

How long does a CoolSculpting take?

CoolSculpting appointments typically only take about 35 to 60 minutes. The length of the appointment will depend upon the amount of fat to be removed, as well as the number of body areas that need to be treated.

Some people have only a single area of stubborn fat to remove, while other individuals may desire to have multiple areas of the body treated during the same office visit.

The time will fly by since you can use your phone, read, or listen to music during your CoolSculpting treatment!

Does CoolSculpting hurt?

Because CoolSculpting is non-surgical there is no incision and no pain. Patients will initially feel extreme cold when the applicator is applied to the targeted area. However, within 5 to 10 minutes, the cold causes the treated area becomes numb, and any discomfort typically subsides.

Patients may feel is a mild pulling, tugging, or pinching sensation, as the fat is “vacuumed” into the CoolSculpting handpiece.
